Hill House Senior Housing received a $7.4 million grant in 2014 to construction the 24 unit addition to its existing facility. The grant focused solely on the addition and did not include funds for renovating the 20 year old existing facilities. Hill House has now received a $1.9 million grant to renovate its existing units, common spaces, and to make energy efficiency improvements to its heating and cooling system. Buchanan Architects, in collaboration with Urban Initiatives and White Birch Development, made the application request earlier this year. This grant is one of 24 that were distributed to 20 municipalities across the state.
This grant comes on the heals of completing bathroom renovations and accessibility improvements just last month. These improvements were completed using tax credits received last year. The existing bathroom tubs were replaced with showers to make the transitions in and out for bathing easier for the residents. Similarly, taller toilets were installed for easier use. New LED lighting, flooring, vanities and fixtures round out the renovations to the 36 units.
